Born in 1927 Douglas Huntington was married to Lyn and they lived in Southern France, near Nice and Antibes until his demise in 2014, having moved from the UK in September 2004.
Douglas had a varied and interesting career. After release from the Royal Air Force he studied to become a Chartered Company Secretary. Finding that work rather pedestrian he joined an engineering consortium which had just been formed to design a large new tyre factory in Dnieperpetrovsk in the Russian Ukraine, to supply all the plant and to supervise its commissioning. He was appointed Commercial Manager and later became General Manager of the company. This was followed by similar contracts in Roumania, Jugoslavia and East Germany and involved a similar tender to the Polish Government. This latter, however was aborted by the Poles who decided that they could not afford it even with the generous credit terms offered to them.

Deciding that however interesting and exciting that post was it was nevertheless demanding far too much absence from home and family, Douglas left and joined as Marketing manager a company based in Winchester which designed and fabricated steel buidings. In 1967 Douglas joined the small ailing company, W.C.Youngman Ltd., and was appointed Marketing Director, then later, Managing Director after the company had been bought by the SGB Group. The formerly small public company grew into a sub-group comprising three profitable operating businesses. Douglas retired in 1990 and since then much of his spare time has been spent in researching and writing.

In loving memory of

DOUGLAS WILLIAM HUNTINGTON

10 MAY 1927 – 12 AUGUST 2014.

Born in England and departed in France:

Where he lived with Lyn for ten happy years.

Lyn, the author’s wife, on Douglas’ behalf
would very much like to thank the actors
who took partook in his final play.

It was the parting he would have appreciated,
tears of joy and remembrance, no fuss, just respect.

So many happy memories to be cherished.
